Testimonials

Hi Sheyne,

How can we thank you enough?

I received an email from Essential Baby on 14th Sept which had a link to your website - out of sheer frustration whilst waiting for my little one's cries to subside (it had been going for 3 hours and I was advised a few times by the Tresillian Help line that she would be fine) I started reading your forums. You had just responded to a post that morning to the topic "3 week old won't sleep".

I thought what have I got to lose? As I was a bit uncomfortable with some of the conflicting advice from Tresillian, I decided to give your plan a go from the next feed. Well I can't thank you enough for returning my confidence, sanity and sleep!!!

From the very next day it seemed to work like magic and I felt so much more confident. My little one was almost 7 weeks old then, she is now 4 1/2 months old and I use our routine every time she goes to sleep in her cot at home or when we are visiting at a friends house in the bassinette on the pram. The only time I can't do the full routine is when we go out to the shops or dinner.

24 hours after I started your suggestions for each feed my beautiful little girl started sleeping through the night - and has done so ever since - from about 8:30pm to about 5:30am. The first few nights I didn't sleep as I thought something was wrong with her! Her daytime sleeps were still quite varied at first from 40 mins to over 2 hours but now she sleeps soundly between about 95% of her feeds. At first it would take her about 10 -20 mins to go to sleep after each feed, now most times she has her eyes shut as I am closing her bedroom door. I just followed your suggestions to pick her up, settle her and then put her down if she took too long to settle or woke up too early. Most times on the 2nd settle she would drift back off to sleep.

I was very strict with Grandparents, Uncles & Aunts when I started this process and they were only allowed to nurse our baby if they were feeding her (she is bottle fed) then she went down to play and then once the tired signs appeared she was whisked off to bed. As lovely as it is to nurse a sleeping baby, no one was allowed to nurse her to sleep and once they saw how well it worked - they were all OK with it.

From that day - I stopped demand feeding and now stick to a routine. I thought this would be terrible to be having set feeding times, as I used to hate routines before I had a baby, but I love it as I can make appointments or meet up with friends with the confidence of knowing when my little one will be awake, asleep or needing a feed. I have found a routine to be sooooo much easier. And yes - as you suggest - I do wake my sleeping baby if she is going to sleep past her normal feed time.

I was starting to think I was a terrible mother, after all - how hard can it be to get your baby to go to sleep? I have learnt that without the right information it can be so very hard to get your baby to sleep. Since following your suggestions we have a very beautiful contented baby and parents who are well rested and able to cope with the occassional "off" day that I'm sure all babies have.

My friends and family who have children, are amazed at how well it works and yet how simple the routine is.

I now have all my family raving about your suggestions and they seem as excited about passing on the good news to their friends as I have been. When people now ask why it looks so easy, I give them the web address and tell them it is the most fantastic and simple suggestions I have ever received as a mother!

Thank you so very much. Your suggestions have made our parenting journey a very, very enjoyable one!

Kind regards,

Cath
