Sheyne has displayed a truly incredible gift in understand babies and young children her entire life, but the extent of her deep knowledge of children is often under estimated by even those close to her.

When Sheyne has her initial consultation with her clients, she is able to learn, through questioning the parents on five key areas that impact all children’s sleeping, eating and behaviour, what exactly is causing the disruptions in the first place.

When Sheyne comes across the extremely rare cases where the child is displaying all the symptoms of being an extremely unsettled baby, but can find no true definable cause, she is able to quickly identify whether there is the strong possibility that their could be a medical foundation in that particular child’s case.

Sheyne unique gift has long astounded the team at Australian Baby Whisperer, so we thought we would share some of those stories with you;

Sheyne’s (former - ed.) Personal Assistant, Lisa, received this e-mail just before Christmas (2006 - ed.) from a young mother and father who had several one hour consultations with Sheyne just over a year ago.

Here is their story:

Hello Lisa,

Sheyne fitted my son Finnegan in for several telephone consultations late last year when he was 10 months old. At the time he was showing quite severe signs of an extremely rare neurological disorder which had not at that point been diagnosed. He was a terrible sleeper and had a number of involuntary movements of his head and eyes as well as being unable to support his upper body at nine months. We had spent most of his life to that point in consultations with various specialists but Sheyne was the first person to talk openly to me about the possibility that his problems might be neurological. Six months later after much pushing by us he had an MRI which confirmed his neurological condition. The condition results from a genetic brain abnormality and is not treatable.

What is really interesting though is that the minute his sleeping improved (which was immediately when we started Sheyne's program) the symptoms of his condition improved dramatically. Now just about to turn two, Finn shows only very mild physical symptoms of his disorder which are lessening all the time. His language and social skills have been assessed as being advanced for his age and all indications are that he will continue to improve and lead a normal life. When we saw a geneticist recently at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne he said that he would never have guessed that Finn had the condition if he hadn't seen the MRI results. Obviously the reasons for Finn's extraordinary progress over the past 15 months are complex and varied but his father and I are convinced that the turning point started with the sleep program. In the first three months after commencing the sleep program the more dramatic symptoms almost disappeared and by the time the MRI finally came around we were no longer convinced there was a problem at all. We were very shocked to learn of his condition and the potentially very serious nature of it, although it was clear by that stage that he was on the very mild end of the spectrum.

Not only was Sheyne the first person to identify a rare neurological condition despite examinations by various specialists but she was also able to quickly devise a program to improve baby Finn’s sleep immediately, thus lessening the stress on his already exhausted system. As his sleep improved, Sheyne’s insistence to continue looking for a medical foundation to his symptoms saw baby Finn get the medical intervention he needed and well before most children would ordinarily be diagnosed.

His parents firmly believe that the quick intervention and individual sleep program devised by Sheyne lessoned the severity of the symptoms of their sons rare condition, and ultimately improved the quality of his life as a result.
