Testimonials

BEFORE:

To get Asha to sleep at night was usually at least a half an hour of crying with us patting and feeding her until she was so exhausted she would fall asleep on us and then we would try to pick her up and creep to her room to put her in her cot, if we were lucky she would not wake back up for a couple of hours.

She was a baby who woke anywhere between one and fifteen times a night, the average was about six times. Each time she woke I would rush into her room, put the dummy back into her mouth and try and pat her back to sleep. If this failed I would then feed her back to sleep. Usually by about 2 or 3am I would be so exhausted I would scoop her up and take her back to bed with me where she would still wake all the time and constantly feed.

During the day she would be lucky to have 2 or 3 short cap naps of about 20 – 40 minutes each.

She was never happy to stay in her cot awake on her own. She needed to be held or entertained during the day.

I was not at breaking point but I HAD broken! I was diagnosed with Post Natal Depression and was attending hospital two days a week to try and overcome it. A psychiatrist wanted to put me on anti depressant drugs straight away.  I was so stressed that I was no longer sleeping even when Asha was. I could not remember anything, was constantly crying and even started to have panic attacks when I needed to leave the house.  It was then that my partner was recommended Sheyne Rowley “The Australian Baby Whisperer” by a friend. That day he spoke to Sheyne on the phone and arranged for us to fly to Sydney to meet with her.

AFTER:

Even with our lives being so bad before it was scary to think about change – what if it didn’t work? Can I deal with her crying herself asleep? Looking back I don’t know why I was so scared. There was very little crying in the first few days, if any. It was simply amazing, from the first time I wrapped her for her first morning sleep she just had this glazed over look on her face and went to sleep almost straight away. She started sleeping through that night. I was glad I had her breathing monitor on otherwise I would have thought she had died. I simply couldn’t believe that my child could go from waking so many times during the night to now sleeping through in one night. She also has a big 2 ½ hours sleep at lunchtime.  She is happy to play in her cot by herself for 20 minutes and can play by herself on the floor during the day. The dummy has also gone. In one month I probably have only had to go back into her room maybe five times in total to resettle her (I used to do more than that in ONE NIGHT!)

I never went on the anti depressants. I now have my life back on track. I am happy and am finally enjoying my baby girl. I now exercise everyday and even get up before I need to wake Asha and jump on the treadmill in the morning. Sheyne is great! She is patient and lovely to talk to and was a saviour for my baby, my relationship and also me with my partner.
