Testimonials

I’m writing this letter of support for Sheyne’s methods after experiencing first hand her amazing wealth of knowledge dealing with extremely difficult babies.

Sheyne stayed with our family for 5 nights in early 2009 and truly weaved her magic. Prior to Sheyne’s arrival my husband and I had averaged 4 hours sleep per day for the first 5 months of Takoda’s life. After this, and although we got a little more sleep, Takoda would wake by 4am and be up for the day. His day sleeps were all 20-40mins and he would only fall asleep independently when driven in the car (once he grew out of the electric swing). He would go absolutely hysterical, often to the point of vomiting, if we tried to get him to sleep in his cot, swing, hammock etc. For months we drove approx 3 hours/day and dealt with endless crying and a very distressed little baby.

Although the sleep was an issue, our main problem was feeding. Each breastfeed he would scream as soon as he came near my chest and usually scratch and kick me. My husband would need to be with me every single feed to walk him around the yard and calm him down before trying again. I ended up expressing 4 -5 times a day and topping up with formula. It would take 1.5hrs to get Takoda to drink 70-90 mls and for months the only way I could feed him was with a medicine dropper whilst he slept. This went on until we ended up in hospital when Takoda was 9 weeks of age. Our little boy ended up having severe silent reflux and cow milk/soy protein intolerance which explained many of our issues including the development of a major feeding aversion. He was put on neocate immediately and to our amazement and relief he started drinking like he had never before. Unfortunately his dislike/fear of feeding continued. As per the pediatrician’s advice I tried him on solids at 4 months. After 6 months of Takoda refusing to eat solids (i.e. 1 teaspoon a feed), Sheyne arrived.

As a 10 month old baby Takoda was extremely hyper, irritable and grumpy. I seriously thought there was something mentally wrong with him, as did the rest of my family. I rarely ventured out of the house and I especially NEVER fed Takoda away from our home as he would go hysterical and I felt very embarrassed. I explained all of this to Sheyne prior to her arrival and she suggested that Takoda was likely to be running on adrenaline and absolutely wired due to his poor sleeping and feeding. Sheyne said she was very confident that she would have him eating 6 ice cubes of solids per meal, drinking his milk within 10 minutes and sleeping in his cot with very little fuss. I felt very skeptical “yeah right lady” but Sheyne was my only glimmer of hope.

Surely enough, Sheyne lived up to her reputation and promise, on the very first day she had Takoda sleeping in his cot without any tears AND for 2.5hrs which he had NEVER done before. He was sleeping from 7pm-6.30am without any fuss. Within the first couple of days Sheyne also had Takoda drinking his milk within 10 minutes and eating his 6 cubes/feed. To my husband and I this was a miracle.

Takoda’s now 18 months old, 9 months after Sheyne weaved her magic, and we are still travelling well. Although Takoda can still be bit of a pickle when it comes to meal time, we are 100 times better than where we were. We have no problems with getting Takoda to sleep or resettling him these days either. Lastly, Takoda is a much happier little guy and we are much happier parents! Thank you SO much Sheyne, we feel truly blessed to have experienced your help first hand and will forever be grateful for how much you have helped our family.
